Please let your AKCA rep/contact know of any concerns your club may have! 2012 AKCA Business Meeting/Banquet – KHA Wet Lab to be held in Fresno June 30-July 1 June deadline for club submissions for the Speaker Grant Lottery (see website for details) He plans to include the benefits of AKCA at the end of the invoice for the club AKCA Dir/Reps to use if they need it.V Scientific/KHA: Don gave Jerry’s report: They are waiting for the distribution of the March-April issue of KOIUSA and the hoped for subsequent feedback from the KHA articles including “Where Do We Go From Here?” With the delivery of the magazine, individual members also will personally be sent a copy of the article to assure widespread distribution and encourage feedback.V AKCA-PROJECT KHV: Ray stated he reviewed and gave approval to for Doug to pay the most recent quarterly OSU invoice for $3,106.90 for expenses incurred for our sponsored KHV latency study.V PUBLICATION: Joan reported that the magazine is 3 weeks late we are waiting for Mike to give the green light so that Bob Payne can send it to American Web for printing. The drop dead date for receipt is now July 1, which is more than 90 days after the billing date per the AKCA By-Laws. He will send Don the AKCA dues invoice by Mar 28 to forward to all club AKCA Dir/Reps. Project KHV account interest gained $12 in Jan. Approved.V MARCH FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Doug reported that the investment account gained $492 in Jan.There was much discussion on getting outside advertising to increase our revenue. Larry had stated that JR gave a thumbs up to continue the Rambling Articles. She has also been working with Connie on the media kit that is now available for download.
M otion: To renew the appointment of the KOI USA Board: Joan Finnegan – Chairperson Don Chandler – Vice Chairperson Carole Elliott – Secretary Doug Dahl – CFO Larry Iles – Editor Don Chandler – Assistant Editor and Patti Gingerich – Webmaster. Doug also gave a more detailed report on subscriptions, etc. The KOI USA trademark renewal has been completed. It is important that we need to collect what is owed to us. Doug did feel that the current and future trend line is very positive. It was stated that revenue gains have been offset by someAdvertisers not paying their bills. There was further discussion on revenue for the last two issues and projected revenues for future issues. He said there are a couple of shows coming up including the Orlando Koi Show and the LA ZNA show.V SPEAKER’S GRANT: Burt stated that one club notified him that they were interested in the grant: Rocky Mountain Koi Club. He also checked out the Comfort Inn where the judges will be staying as well as the restaurant where they will hold their banquet. They have put a lot of money into the facility including a new greenhouse and bathroom for the judges. He couldn’t believe all the things that Doug sent to him!V JUDGING: Charles said he went to Quality Koi with Mike to check out the facility. Doug also stated that he emailed Larry Iles a short paragraph about “How to Put on a Koi Show.” Burt didn’t see a problem but will talk to Pam Spindola re: a similar report they are putting together for the AKCA Judging Committee.V MEMBERSHIP: Don stated that there are 97 active clubs. Our total cost for the premium was $3594 which means we’ve almost paid for the insurance.V Koi Person of the Year: Entries are due by May 1 st please email Burt with info. Don received some suggestions for revisions last month and has forwarded them to Kristine.V INSURANCE/RISK MANAGEMENT: Brenda reported that 26 clubs have signed up for the insurance for $3250 revenue in. If any club wishes to see any part(s) of the by-laws changed, please email Kristine with your suggestions. Thus, Kristine will take over as Chairperson of the By-laws committee. Since there was no 2011 AKCA Seminar, the entries for 2011 and for 2012 will be held for judging separately by the AKCA attendees at the 2012 AKCA Annual Meeting. Forms are available in the Club Kit on our website.V AKCA Koi of the Year: Entrants must have been selected by the AKCA Club between Apand Apto be eligible for the Koi of the Year in 2012. Only club AKCA Dir/Rep may submit Champion of Champions entry. If interested the club should contact Carole. This can be combined with a club’s koi show. Otherwise, everything is going great.V 2013 Seminar: We are actively seeking requests from clubs for a hosting site for 2013 and/or 2014 for our annual Seminar and/or business meeting/banquet/wet lab. This has yet to be decided. We are also working on having a miniPond tour on Sunday probably from 11 am to 2-3 pm. Kristine to review what was given her.Q Written report submitted by Burt: Rob Forbis, of Orlando Area K&PC, said their February meeting was held at the home and pondside of Jennifer & Luis Barraso. Burt said he didn’t expect an immediate response. He will send out some sample rough looks.Q Election reports: Kristine stated that she will continue to disallow election reports/campaigning as a part of the AKCA minutes (note: some of this month’s club reports needed to be redacted).Q Petition: Burt presented Kristine with an unsorted stack of emails (printed front and back, containing duplicates and some from individuals of non-member clubs). Henry, to the surprise of some and the delight of most, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the developing “Longfin Judging Standards.” The colorful show generated much “conversation” especially the part that asked the audience to judge various longfin threesomes based upon the standards he had elucidated. Their monthly meetings try to feature a speaker and February’s speaker was Henry Culpepper. Kohaku of course and sanke and showa certainly, beautiful ogons and huge chagoi, a classic aka matsuba and an exotic yamatonishiki, in short marvelous. Luis has a marvelous assembly of koi, wonderful examples of many varieties.
